THINGS TO DO IN UCLULET

Fishing

Ucluelet is considered to be one of the best salmon fishing destinations on the west coast of Vancouver Island.  Salmon, mainly Chinook, halibut and ling Cod can be fished during the spring, summer and fall seasons.  Coho is fished in the summer months and early fall, while Chinook and prawns can be fished in the winter.  Spring and fall are the quietest months to plan a fishing trip.

Whale Watching

The whale watching season is from March to the end of October.  The Pacific Grey whale migration (from the Baja Coast up to Alaska) takes place during February, March and April.  Throughout the summer months, a pod of Gray whales spend theirs summers near Ucluelet in Barkley Sound and near Tofino in Clayoquot Sound. Humpback whales may also be seen throughout the whale watching season.  The Humpback whales are at the most abundant in the area during the months of June, July, August and September.  There are numerous pods of Orca (Killer) whales, sea otters and sea lions living in the area.

Wildlife

Sea otters, sea lions, bald eagles, deer and black bears are indigenous to the area.

Nature Cruises

Many cruises are available from Ucluelet and Tofino to the Broken Island Group, Mears Island, Clayoquot Sound and Hot Springs Cove.

Whale watching, nature tours and more are available on the beautiful west coast of Vancouver Island.

Hiking, Walking and Biking

Beach and trail walks abound in Ucluelet and Pacific Rim National Park Reserve. The well known Wild Pacific Trail, just minutes away from the lodge, follows the rugged coastline overlooking Barkley Sound and the Broken Island Group.

Surfing

Surfing on the west coast is great fun for those with all levels of experience.  There are surf schools and equipment rentals in the area. Winter is the best time of year for surfing.

Ocean Kayaking

It is possible to take local day trips around Ucluelet inlet and overnight trips to the Broken Island Group and Clayoquot Sound.

Golfing

Golfing enthusiasts can enjoy a challenging 9-hole golf course.  Opening in the future, there will be an 18-hole Jack Nicklaus Golf Club called Wyndansea.
